Trauma Informed Therapy
Trauma (any event or series of events which were frightening and where somebody felt as if they could not cope) can affect a person’s thoughts and feelings long after the event.
Some people who have experienced trauma may develop physical symptoms (such as headaches, body pains, and digestive difficulties) which doctors cannot always explain.
Talking about trauma can be very difficult. A trauma informed therapist can help somebody to talk about their frightening experiences without judging them or causing them to feel unsafe.
Trauma informed therapy involves a gentle approach where the therapist works at the pace that is right for the client.
The therapist will help somebody to understand any physical or emotional reactions that they are having and will help them to learn how to feel calmer and in control.
